What is music therapy

Music therapy uses evidenced-based interventions (intentionally designed music activities) to effect change or support maintenance of global health and wellness goals for individuals with and without diagnosed conditions. Common areas we address are: cognitive, social, emotion regulation/sensory integration, motor, communication, and musical.

Music therapists are educated and trained to use assessments, evidence-based interventions, and evaluations of measurable outcomes in clinical practice.

Haley Music Therapy offers one on one and group music therapy sessions based on individualized client interests, needs, abilities, and assessments.

In music therapy we work with individuals with the following diagnoses:

Alzheimer’s/Dementia | Anxiety | Cerebral Palsy | Depression | ID/DD

Sensory Integration Stroke | Traumatic Brain Injury | More

Music therapy isn’t effective just for diagnosable conditions. It is also a way to support whole-person health and wellness. Music is inherently supportive of neurological function. At Haley Music Therapy we also offer traditional music lessons, music therapy-informed (adaptive and personalized music lessons, and other music-based education.

Neurologic Music Therapy

Neurologic music therapyTM (NMT) are standardized techniques to improve neurological functioning for individuals who have had a stroke or other traumatic brain injury, or have been diagnosed with Autism, Alzheimer’s/dementia, Parkinson’s disease or other neurological disorders.

Individuals experiencing disruptions in memory or cognition, challenges with their ability to communicate (receptive and expressive), and difficulty initiating and controlling motor movements benefit from these researched and proven methods.

The World Federation of Neurorehabilitation (WFNR), the European Federation of Neurorehabilitation Societies (EFNS), and the Society for Clinical Neuromusicology (CNM) have all officially endorsed NMT interventions for neurological rehabilitation.
